Our UNA Chapter will present another FREE PROGRAM of FOREIGN UNfTED NATIONS FILM NIGHTS EVERY FOURTH FRIDAY OF 2008 BEGINNING August 22d at 6:30 pm and ending on Friday the 26th of November... The program is for UNA members and those interested In the United Nations.
 
The purpose of the program is to connect the work of the United Nations to important international problems through the use of film and discussion Many members of the chapter have strong international backgrounds and contribute their experience and knowledge to such discussions. As a result of our first program, one young college student, after having seen and heard the films and discussions, changed her college major because she wants to work for the United Nations.
 
This series of four films then will be shown at the SANTA ROSA YMCA starting at 630 pm. To park go into the small YMCA parking lot on College Avenue or go around the corner to the left of the main YMCA entrance to 1101 North Street where there is a sign leading to a very large parking tot. (Thanks to YMCA for donating our meeting space. Consider learning about all they offer and joining them too).

LIFE IN OCCUPIED PALESTINE (2007)A recent documentary by Anna Baltzer, a young Jewish American woman, who has spent several years filming the difficult living conditions of Palestinians in the Israaeli controlled West Bank. She freely expresses her sympathy for the suffering of the Palestinians, What is the position of the United Nations in this conflict?
 
Sesptember 26, Friday 6:30 pm SIERRA LEONE'S REFUGEE ALL STARS A dcumentary about gifted musicans who are refugees from the brutal civil war that wracked their West African nation in the 1990s. How effective has the United Nations High Commission on Refugees been in this situation and what has the Security Council done about the civil war in Sierra Leone?
 
OCTOBER FRIDAY at 6:30 PM- CRY THE SNOW LION-A documentary about Chinese domination of traditional Tibetan society. Many Tibetans voice their complaints about the changes made by Chinese  authorities since the flight of the Dalai Lama. Where does the United
Nations stand with regard to the situation in Tibet?
 
NOVEMBER FRIDAY at 6:30 PM- CHILDREN OF HEAVEN -A  charming film about an Iranian brother and sister who share one pair of  shoes and their lives in contemporary Iran. Many of the scenes give  insight into aspects of Iranian life today. Could any of the UN agencies  help? Why has Iran become a problem for the United Nations Security Council?
